I noticed that three sides of this fabric have cut edges and one side has a selvage edge. This would make an unsightly border and can't be easily woven through.
My first step with this fabric will be to trim this edge off, being very careful to cut in the first rows of spaces - a straight edge.
Then I will fold all four edges and baste a different color of yarn to hold the edges in place until I can weave them together.
Thanks for visiting with me.

I am curious what mesh fabric you use? I have looking for the kit that came out in the 80's about this mesh weaving and I can't seem to find it and I forgot the name of it unfortunately, so I have been looking high and low and I finally came across your blog! Thank you for having this Blog! I has seen such beautiful pattern done through this weaving and I would love to try it, can I ask where you get your mesh from? In my seach I cam across some wonderful sewing and weaving people I wonder if you could possibly use your weaving and what they do together? Can I share a link here? https://www.youtube.com/@HandiWorks , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtG0xgmgUes&t=1664s, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGQdV1wHZ_0, I was just curious if over top the blanket if what these peoples how, their stitches could be used with it to create flowers and such on top or sewn into your blanket, I hope that makes sense? I am on Face Book and messenger I live in Reading Pa. Perhaps we can talk about projects sometime?
ReplyDeleteDebra, I used to find kits on eBay. Look for Bucilla - no knit weaving kits. You may also find some by Mary Maxim. Heaven only knows if it's still available, but I have a booklet called Afghan Heirlooms by Sandi Wilmot and Mary Rahn. I just looked at eBay and saw several available kits. Those meshes are easiest to work with as they are a tiny bit stiffer than the Utility mesh you can get at Joann Fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is useful to you.
You may also find in some of the other Mesh Weaver posts, that you can weave in any direction you wish. I made a pseudo-granny square lap robe in one of the posts.

DeleteThis shows that you could make flowers or any other pattern you like.
Oh ok I thought the fabric had a certain name and hole gauge size. I rarely ever order from amazon or ebay. I just thought you might be interested too in those stitches. ok Thank you for the information.
